- [S1656] The Ottawa Citizen, (29 Dec 1987), Fraser was history buff, horticulturist
Funeral services were held Monday for Harvey Fraser, a city resident who died in hospital Christmas day. Fraser, 82, was a staunch supporter of the Ottawa Valley Historical Society and was a well-known horticulturist in Pembroke. He lived in the community all his life, operating Sunset Nursery on Pembroke Street East until his retirement a few years ago. A local history buff, Fraser spent many of his leisure hours at the Champlain Trail Museum. He was familiar with many of the historical buildings in the area and knew the architectural significance of each one. A member of Wesley United Church, he was active in church work. Fraser was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Pembroke Horticultural Society, supporting many community projects. . Fraser is survived by his wife Bernice Fraser of Pembroke, son Colin of Vancouver, daughter Blair-Ann Schimmens, grandsons Colin and Reid Schimmens of Pembroke, brother Denzil Fraser and sister Dorothy Hocking.
